What can I borrow from the library?
|
You can borrow all kinds of things from the library: books, console games, dvds, cds, magazines, cd-roms and Blu-Ray discs. It would be wise to keep the things you borrowed in a certain place at home. That way you can’t misplace them. You should never lend the things you borrowed from the library to your friends.

How do I find things at the library?
The easiest way to find things that interest you is browsing the shelves yourself. You can also use the HelMet-catalogue to search for library material or you can ask the staff for help. Remember that you’ll be able to find the newest books and cds usually a little bit later at the library than in the shops.

How do I borrow material and when do I bring it back?
When you visit the library you should take a bag or a rucksack with you. That’s a smart way to carry home the things you borrow. Browse the shelves to find the things you want to take home. Go to the lending desk or the self-service lending machine. Whichever you choose you’ll need your library card.
To use the self-service lending machine you have to remember your PIN code as well. You’ll get a receipt for your loans. All the things you borrowed are listed in the receipt. You can also see the due dates from the receipt so you will know when to bring the material back to the library. It doesn’t matter if you lose the receipt, because you can check your loans and the due dates via HelMet on the internet or ask at the library.
There are different kinds of loan periods. You can usually keep books, cd-roms, magazines, videos and cds for four weeks and dvds, console games, Blu-Ray discs for one week. Some of the most requested cds can be borrowed for one week only.
When you bring your loans back to the library give them to the person at the lending desk. Some libraries have self-return machines as well. The staff puts the things you returned back to their right places so the next person who wants to borrow them can easily find them.
If you forget some of your loans at home or if you want to keep them a bit longer you can renew them. You can ask the librarian to renew your loans either at the library or or by phone. You can also renew your loans yourself via HelMet.
