The library has about 25 computer workstations in total. The use of all workstations is free of charge. Certain computer workstations require a valid library card. The staff provides assistance in the general use of the workstations.

Half-hour drop-in computers are located in the front lobby of the library. Times for these computers are given by queuing and not advance booking. The Windows based ASKO workstations may be booked in advance.

All the computers can print A4 sized paper in either color or grayscale. Prints cost 0.40€ per sheet.

Patron workstations have access to digital materials such as music, art, and article databases plus encyclopedias and dictionaries acquired by the library.

Drop-in workstations

9 workstations - time of use 30 minutes (nos. 1–9)

Drop-in workstations mean computers that you can use up to half-an-hour. These workstations cannot be booked in advance but function on a queuing basis. You can browse the Internet, access e-mail and use word processing, spreadsheet and image editing software at all these workstations. Drop-in workstations are located in the library’s front lobby; the area with the red floor.

ASKO workstations

ASKO workstations are Helsinki City Library’s patron workstations that can be accessed with your library account number. All ASKO workstations have the same software. Consequently using ASKO is always the same experience even though the library or computer varies. At the ASKO workstations you can access the Internet, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, image editing and other software.

HelMet terminals

6 terminals - unlimited use

At the HelMet terminals you can browse the entire catalogue of the metropolitan area’s city libraries. In addition these terminals allow you to reserve materials, renew your loans, check the status of loaned/reserved materials, and to book a time for a computer workstation at any HelMet library.

Using your own laptop at the library

By means of the Stadinetti wireless internet connection (Wi-Fi) and accessories on loan, a patron can build a workstation of one’s own. Network connections can be made conventionally with a cable as well. One logs into Stadinetti with one’s library card number and the corresponding PIN-code. Visitors can acquire a temporary account number by sending an SMS message “stadinetti en” to +358 50 4937744 at the standard cost of your service provider.

Peripherals

On the library premises you may loan peripherals to connect to your own laptop as well as headphones for listening to music. When borrowing peripherals, you need to show your library card. DVD films can be viewed on the portable viewer on loan. The library has mobile lightweight desks on wheels allowing you to setup your workstation freely in the library.

The photocopying machine makes A4 and A3-sized black and white copies. Copies cost 0.40€/page. The copier is self-service and requires coins.
