The library’s customer computers provide a selection of different databases in addition to Internet access and ordinary office programs. The basic services of customer computers are e.g.
- Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers,
- Office 2003 (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint),
- Acrobat Elements for creating PDF files.
Use of computer and booking procedure
- to use a computer you need a library card and PIN code
- it is worthwhile booking a pc in advance
- you can book a pc over the Internet, by calling or visiting the library
- you can make one reservation at a time
- the session you can book on a pc can be from half an hour to a few hours
- your reservation expires, if you do not arrive to the pc within 10 minutes from the beginning of the booked session
- libraries have also queue-up computers, which can be used without booking
- some libraries have separate computers for children and separate ones for adults
- you can print color and black-and-white printouts (printouts cost 0.30 euros/page)
- some computers provide the plug-in possibility for memory sticks and digital cameras (USB)
- you can find special and peripheral devices from the session booking (e.g. publishing work station, scanner, or burning CD drive)
ASKO – computer for customers
The basic computer for customers at the library is called ASKO. The computer is used with the combination of the library card number and PIN code, and no customer information is visible for others. The computer provides, in addition to the Internet, e.g. text and image processing programs and databases acquired by the library. Most programs are available in many languages.
Special devices
Library 10 has a selection of customer computers that differs from the selection of other libraries. In addition to ASKO computers, the library also has e.g. publishing workstations and a computer for the disabled.
CD ROM computer for children
On the CD ROM computer for children, you can only use CD ROMs that have been installed on the computer. The selection varies at the libraries.
HelMet catalogue browser
All libraries provide HelMet catalogue browsers, which you can use to browse the reference database of the libraries in the capital area, make reservations and check their status as well as renew loans. You can also book computers for customers at a library with the HelMet catalogue browser.
